My name is Kerin Caldwell. I am a third year Health and Society major at University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. My goal is to become a surgical cardiac Physician Assistant. I want to help people who are affected by cardiac or pulmonary diseases similar to the ones that affect the people of St. James. It is a human right to have access to clean air and this website brings awareness to the people who are having that right taken away. It is important to me that this area gets recognition and justice because the people of St. James does not deserve to have their homes and lives taken over by air pollution.

My name is Jacqueline Mejia and I am a full-time student attending the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. I am currently a Nursing Major minoring in Global Health. As a nursing major I hope to foster a connection with others, provide patient advocacy and create a positive change within the community. There are many ongoing health issues going on around the world such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease, etc. Along with this, there are many risk factors that come into play. For instance, air pollution is one risk factor that plays a threat to someone’s well-being. Air pollution is an ongoing issue that continues to affect many individuals and is caused by petrochemical factories, motor vehicles, household combustion devices, etc. For this reason, I hope to spread awareness and educate others about the ongoing health issues and challenges St. James Parish is facing. Some challenges they have faced is environmental discrimination and increased cancer rates. Both of which, needs attention to improve the well-being of the community, environment, and living situation in St. James Parish.
